Just in case anyone thinks that Internet trolls and timewasters are a new phenomenon…

After reading David Allen Green and linkchasing to a posting about “David Mabus“ – who seems to have been a right piece of work – I thought back over the past 25 years (sigh) and a few names sprang to mind:

…and a bunch of others too numerous to mention. Not all of them were trolls in modern day parlance but a few were positively unhinged, and others were right up there in the hate-mail-generating stakes.

And of course there was Kibo, the antidote to trolling.

It’s not new.

  1. There was a chap in the computer chess forums who basically caused a mass migration from rgcc to a web based forum. In that case clearly some sort of mental instability, and at one point it seemed to be straightened out only to recur. I’ve escaped computer programming forums so not sure what the current status is.

The issue in almost every case was someone would reply.
