Dear Lazyweb: Do I a) Buy a Dell Display b) Buy an Apple Thunderbolt Display c) Wait for an upgrade to the latter?

Decisions, decisions.

…or maybe there will be something huge and retina-like, real soon now? <hope/>

Simon Phipps made the excellent question:

How about a TV? These days the offer great resolution…?

    To which I responded:

1920×1080 is not really doing it for me, I have an old MacMini wired to the 42″ Samsung and it’s great, but I want something a bit larger than my current 24″, and with better than the latter’s 1920×1200 …

I dot think you’ll do better than the 1920×1200 you have now. There should be a retina thunderbolt rig coming soon. Thunderbolt is just Mini DisplayPort.

I have a Dell Ultrasharp matte-finish IPS 1920×1200 24″ display (which cost about the same as the Dell you cite) and it’s very good. Very good viewing angles, good gamut, solid build, good input selection & controls, pretty impressive. If I were seriously considering paying the £900 for a lthunderbolt monitor, I think I’d buy one of these instead: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U3011-30-Monitor/dp/B004KKGF1O – 4 megapixels instead of 3.6 – why mess about :-) (also, not glossy)
